ChronicBabe on Chronic Illness

The internet is a vast and beautiful place where we find people we never would have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. Sometimes, though, it still seems to take a while to find these all-too-perfect matches, which is how I felt when Jenni Grover hopped in my lap. She runs ChronicBabe, an online project with a website, YouTube channel, book, newsletter, and tons of other offerings designed to help women with chronic illness feel more like babes…not just sick chicks. She draws on her experience living with fibromyalgia and a handful of other chronic conditions to create community and resources that help women like her – maybe women like you! – craft an incredible life beyond illness. Her new book, ChronicBabe 101, just came out, and I am so excited to have her on for this episode.

In this episode we talk about:

  • The important things to remember about self-care when it comes to chronic illness
  • Whether or not we should be using the term “sufferer”
  • Ways to answer the constant recurring questions you’re asked all the time when you have chronic illness
  • How to break tension and approach situations where people are uncomfortable and awkward as a result of a physical indicator of illness
  • Ways for people to reclaim the mobility aids they use as a form of self-expression
  • How to deal with the “…but you don’t look sick” epidemic
  • Having fun with chronic illness
