Punk Is The Ultimate Self-Love

img_7920

Any scene can feel like a warm bear hug, but it can also end up feeling more oppressive than it originally felt welcoming. It can be that way with punk, it can be that way with anything. I’ve always been fascinated with the ideals and culture of punk, but don’t really identify with that scene anymore for a number of reasons. Seeing my favorite singer, the lead for the band Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace, at a book signing recently reignited my thought process on what punk is and how we should treat ourselves and each other. So I formulated these thoughts, and I hope you’ll listen.

In this episode I talk about:

  • My introduction to punk
  • What punk culture is and why I’m attracted to it
  • Who Laura Jane Grace is
  • Her transition into becoming the woman she always wanted to be
  • Nonconformity vs. Acceptance
